It’s Not Death, It’s Hunger That I Fear
The world crossing 5.3 million cases of Corona Virus has left us with hundreds of thousands of deaths already. And now it is on the verge of surging consequences of the pandemic rather than its effect. The consequences being unemployment, rise of world hunger and inflation.

Approximately, around 1.6 billion informal economy workers, comprising of 76% of  total informal employment worldwide, are significantly impacted by the lockdown measures. People losing their job has bound them to limit their day-to-day consumption, while it seems less bothersome for rich people. But the developing countries consisting of many rural areas where a family survives with $1.90 per day will have to face longer reverberation.

Gau Maya Pariyar says from Nepal, “Today, if I do not work, my whole family will sleep empty stomach”. She added, “it’s better to die today with disease than tomorrow with hunger. Such issues are going to surge until the pandemic settles.

The effect is not only on human, but also the stray and feral animals like dogs, cats and cows are starving to death as they are unable to find sufficient eatable waste as much as before. Although some people are doing their best to feed the ones around their surroundings, it is impossible to reach out to the animals across the whole city or country or world. I wonder how many animals must be starving right now.

Although the officials are doing their best to support the people with hunger in every way possible, it is not enough. Wards are providing handouts to the poor in Nepal but 8 kgs of rice per family consisting of 4 members won’t even last for few days causing the same issue to reappear. Hence, the families have stopped depending on the government subsidies and started trying to earn their living in any way possible.

Yearly, about 9 million people die of  hunger, stated International Relief Agency Mercy Corps. The effective way to fund these people is by requesting funding from the developed and capable countries. But in the current scenario where every nation has its own issues to tackle, aiding with funds can be quite a challenge. However, the outcome can be much worse if functional initiative is not taken.

All in All, I believe this is the point where real humanity has to reflect. It’s not the time where “me and my” matters, it is “we and our” that does). It is not our existence that makes us human but the humanity within us
